Sheer, Lace and Ruffle Sexiest Trends

The use of sheer and see through textiles like fishnet, chiffon and lace will continue to be around for spring and summer. After viewing many runway shows and fashion editorials for spring and summer 2016 trends, I didn’t see much that hasn’t been seen before.  Remember ten years ago when the gladiator sandal first started showing up?  Even if you didn’t like the gladiator sandal, that look was new, refreshing and exciting. The reinvented Victorian era of the high low hem recently brought some change to the runways along with recent plunge necks and see through textiles like lace. Well, some designers have pushed the sheer see through textiles to another level. Fishnet material inlays, which I love, hit hard on the runways this Spring Summer. I bought a fishnet inlay shirt over 10 years ago and still love it and wear it. In my opinion using fishnet textiles, when done correctly, is timeless.

The 2016 Spring and Summer fashion trends also have some weird and edgy quirky moments. The mixing of crazy busy prints together all in one garment piece, especially in dresses is prevalent.  The spring 2016 trends did not offer many new silhouettes or new pattern cuts but there were loads of exaggerated ruffles and pleats, lots of lace inlays and embellishments.  Alexander McQueen’s runway show really made this trend come to life.

Every so often, maybe too often, lingerie appears in the ready to wear runway shows. Some designers take the recent over use of lace and sheer textiles and naturally gear their designs towards lingerie. This is an understandable and even logical use of textile. However, in my opinion it’s hard to find it flattering. As shown here in the Balenciaga Spring 2016 ready to wear designed by Alexander Wang.

There were a few pieces that really caught my attention as far as the silhouette and uniqueness of the cut.

To sum up this Spring and Summer 2016 trends it is easy to see that sheer and fishnet textiles are being used heavily. Ruffles are being placed through out a garment for an embellished effect and added texture. Some peek a boo shoulder cut outs in both tops and dresses. Some of the shoulder cuts reveal more skin than others, which I like. There really is no definitive length of dresses on the 2016 spring and summer runways.  Some dresses are being cut short, long and mid length. The heart and spirit of the current trend was presented in the Balmain runway show.
